Reflecting on the good & bad of 2022

What better way to end the year than to reflect on the good and the bad.

A few years ago I learnt something  from the Kardashians…

I was a big fan of keeping up with the Kardashians growing up (I am a little embarrassed to admit it now). But I learnt one thing from that crazy family… and that is to talk about your peak and your pit, something they did on most of their family trips.

Thanks to the Kardashians this has now become part of my night time routine with my kids. Every night we talk about our peak and our pit. I do this in the hopes that they will learn to reflect back on their life and find gratitude for what was.

In case you do not know how it works. You state 3 moments of your day that you considered your peak (highest, best moments) and 1 or 2 of your pit (your lowest worst parts of the day). This helps children (and adults) to give value to important moments and talk through harder ones. You can make this about your week your month or your year. It does not have to be only about your day.

I find this has helped my children deal with their big emotions and often puts things into perspective for parents too. When you are forced to reflect back on events, you notice things come up that you didn’t really give much importance to during the day. This has helped us find strength in struggles and feel grateful for the little things.

I take this same concept into my art practice too and it has helped me notice that what I was once struggling with is now my peak.

So in the hopes of opening up and connecting with you here are my peaks and pits for 2022

My peaks for 2022

  • A healthy and beautiful family
  • The ability to continue to create and live my dream of building a sustainable career in design and illustration
  • Finding the courage to let go of things that no longer serve me and grow as an individual

My pits for 2022

  • Having to deal with growth the hard way and letting things go before I was ready
  • Having a few sick days that made me feel miserable
  • Not living in the moment

My wish for 2023 is to continue to enjoy and appreciate life however it comes to me. I would also love to be able to inspire and educate people through my art.

What about you? What are your peaks and pits?
